    REPRESENTATION:

What representation of people or groups can we find in this poster?

The main poster for Avatar: The Way of Water focuses entirely on the indigenous Na'vi people, visually highlighting the film's core themes of family, generational shifts, and cultural identity

    1. Representation of the Nuclear Family

The characters represents a familial structure. Unlike the first movie's posters which typically featured a split face contrasting a human against a single Na'vi this poster groups four characters together to emphasize unity and community.
    2. Cultural and Group Identity
The poster signals a merging of different cultures and clans through:
    • The Omaticaya (Forest Clan): they are a darker blue colour with thing tails like a giraffes showing they are made for climbing through trees and flying on ikrans.
    • The Metkayina (Ocean Clan): They are more of a teal/light turquoise colour with webbed arms and thick tails like fins showing they are adapted to the water.
    3. Warriors and Defenders
At the bottom of the poster, a smaller figure is shown riding a Skimwing. This represents the warrior class and the active defence of their group, signalling that these people are not just passive inhabitants of nature, but active protectors of their home and ecosystem.
What does it tell the audience?
This Is a Multi-Generational Family Story, Not Just an Action Movie
The poster tells the audience that the heart of the film is family legacy. It shows that the stakes have changed since the first movie and it is no longer just about a soldier fighting for fighting, but about parents fighting to keep their children safe.
